As one of the first awards of its kind, NOW-NYC’s Susan B. Anthony Awards honor grassroots activists who have advanced the cause of women’s rights and improved the lives of women in our city. Held in February of each year, those the award has honored include activists serving immigrant women, lesbian women, crime survivors, opinion and policy makers and public servants. More info

In 1937, a bill was introduced in Congress to carve a head of Susan B. Anthony on Rushmore. A rider on an appropriation bill required that money be spent only on those figures already begun, thus ending the Anthony proposal.

What a simple statement of confidence this is. Some might doubt it but Susan B. Anthony did not. And she knew that her commitment and belief would be necessary to support others who did not share it, yet.
